Regional Academic Health Center - Harlingen
Maria de Jesus Munoz , MD
Students assigned to the Regional Academic Health Center - Harlingen (RAHC) work primarily with private practice, community-based physicians during the Family & Community Medicine clerkship. Students gain a perspective on many of the unique healthcare issues being dealt with in the lower Rio Grande Valley. There are a variety of opportunities available for students to become involved in a community service project during their clerkship, such as working with the UT Houston Mobile Health van or South Texas Poison Control Center.
Students choosing Harlingen as their clerkship site will only be reimbursed for their initial travel to Harlingen and their final return trip back to San Antonio. Harlingen-based students are expected to travel to Harlingen the Sunday prior to the start of their Family Medicine clerkship and attend orientation on the first day in Harlingen at the RAHC. Students will travel to San Antonio for their clerkship final exam.
