Community Oriented Primary Care Projects (COPC)
All residents are required to complete a project during the second and third years. Protected time in a longitudinal fashion is set aside for these projects. Experienced research and community faculty are team leaders to mentor and support the projects. In the past several years, residents have enjoyed spectacular success in having their projects accepted for state, national, and even international presentations. Visit the COPC website for more information.

Conferences
The Department of Family Practice hold many conferences, each with a special focus. On Wednesday afternoons, all residents gather for a series of lectures which present the "Core Curriculum" for the Residency Program over the three years. Resident Support Group

A resident support group offers group support for the developing resident, as well as a forum for exploring the doctor-patient relationship and the role of the physician.

Residents are also invited to participate in a variety of residency and departmental committees, including Residency Education, Resident Selection, Family Practice Maternity Service, and Family Practice Inpatient Services. Additionally, residents participate in institutional committees of the University of Texas Health Science Center such as the Graduate Medical Education Committee.
