SOUTH TEXAS AMBULATORY RESEARCH NETWORK - STARNet

HISTORY

Formed in 1992 by Walter L. Calmbach, MD at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas (UTHSCSA).

Original funding was from the Grants for the Establishment of Departments of Family Practice. Ten family physicians were recruited from the San Antonio region and Del Rio. The physicians designated a list of research projects they wished to pursue. They received methodological support from faculty at UTHSCSA.

Regular meeting were held in conjunction with the local chapter of the Texas Academy of Family Physicians. STARNet physicians received special recognition from the chapter. STARNet projects were part of each chapter meeting.

STARNet conducted research for several years gathering date from the core group of practices.

Renewed funding from HRSA has allowed us to reactivate the research network.
